Aflac & COVID-19

As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise we wanted to reach out to make sure everyone knew how the Group Aflac plans offered by SDPEBA can help if you or a covered family member becomes ill.

Below is a complete list of the currently offered plans along with how they would help in the event of a diagnosis related to the COVID-19 virus.

Please note, none of the Aflac plans offer benefits for missing work, nor do they pay medical bills. The plans pay benefits directly to you to be used how you see fit, based on the diagnosis, type of visits and your treatment.

Please visit www.SDPEBA.org/Aflac to view full details of the plans, pricing and limitations.

Group Accident Plan:
The Accident plan covers items related to accidental injuries on and off the job. This plan would not offer any benefits in the event of a positive COVID-19 test result.

Group Hospital Indemnity Plan:
This is the coverage that would offer benefits related to a COVID-19 diagnosis.
This plan would pay benefits for:

  • In office physician visits
  • Telephone visits with a doctor
  • ER and Urgent Care visits
  • Admission into the hospital
  • Daily confinement for both normal rooms and additional payouts for ICU
  • Surgery
  • Prescriptions
  • And more

Group Critical Illness Plan:
Although we understand the COVID-19 virus is a critical illness, it is not one of the covered major illnesses listed within the plan’s coverage. If during the course of treatment a patient has a heart attack or stroke, those events would qualify for an Aflac payout.
