Note: This article relates directly to the corona virus and the pandemic. For all official news on COVID-19 and guidelines/requirements, please go through the CDC’s website and check there for official sourcing. This article pertains directly to how AFLAC is helping cover you during this pandemic, it is not, in any way, meant to act as a source or as advice for how you should address this pandemic but is merely an article providing useful information pertaining specifically to one of your potential benefits with SDPEBA.
What is Covered under the Accident and Critical Illness Plan?
If you’re enrolled in either the accident or critical illness plan AFLAC will cover you for any PRC COVID-19 tests you receive as these tests count as a wellness checkup. There is a yearly maximum on wellness checkups, if you’re not sure if you’ve already hit your annual maximum, please contact us via [email protected] or AFLAC support at (888)-315-8027.
These benefits are exclusive to the PRC test (as of 11/19/2020), and do not extend to the rapid antigen test or the antibody/serologic test (however, these types of tests might be covered by your full-service healthcare provider).
It is important to note that a positive COVID-19 diagnosis does not count as an accident or a critical illness.
What is Covered under the Hospital Plan?
In the case that you receive a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, AFLAC’s hospital plan will cover you for: office visits, hospital admission, and hospital confinement.
Tele-doctors and visits to “makeshift” facilities all count as “office visits” in the eyes of your plan. Meaning you can still receive benefits from AFLAC, even if your trip to the doctor doesn’t look like what it used to.
For more information about what these plans cover, please check their brochures here.
Critical Illness Plan Brochure
All of AFLAC’s policies still follow the guidelines as outlined in your benefits. For more information, check the brochures above or contact SDPEBA.
Since the virus is an ongoing and everchanging issue, things might change. Keep in contact with your doctors and regularly check our site and the sites of anywhere you hold benefits to make sure you know exactly what is offered should you need it.
