In order to make Open Enrollment as smooth as possible, we’ve put together a list of frequently asked questions to help make it easier for you to enroll/make changes to your plans this year!
What is Open Enrollment?
Open enrollment is the period you’re able to make changes, add, or remove any of your SDPEBA sponsored plans. Its also when we post changes to rates or coverage for any plans. SDPEBA’s open enrollment starts June 5th and ends June 30th, whereas the SAP enrollment ends June 25th.
If I’m enrolled, do I need to re-enroll?
Short answer, no. Your plans will automatically renew on August 1st. Which means! If you want to make changes or remove a plan, you’ll need to contact us so we can get that settled before then.
How do I enroll/cancel a plan/make changes?
It varies based on the plans you’re looking to enroll in. We’ve put together a guide on how to enroll in each plan here: https://news.sdpeba.org/everything-you-need-to-do-for-open-enrollment
If you’re looking to cancel a plan or make changes, follow the same steps as listed in the document linked above.
When does Coverage Start?
For the most part, the answer is August 1st. However, if you’re enrolling in a year-round plan, such as: pet insurance or Liberty Mutual, coverage will begin after your next pay period. This should be communicated to you while you’re enrolling.
When do Deductions start?
Most deductions will start the pay period before or the pay period after your effective start date. The deductions will then roll for the rest of the fiscal year (which amounts to 26 payments per year).
Can I jointly enroll with a Domestic Partner?
For SDPEBA, yes. During the enrollment process all of OUR health care plans (Sharp, MetLife Dental, and VSP) allow you to file with a domestic partner, if you’re filing over the phone mention that to your support representative or simply use the term married/domestic partner while filing. The same is true for our supplemental plans (Aflac, MetLife Legal, etc.) as well!
If you are registering with the City you will have to have a signed affidavit. Contact RISK for more information, 619-236-5924.
Can I switch from SDPEBA’s plan to the City’s plan?
Yes. If you’d like to start using the City’s health, dental or vision plan, enroll through their SAP platform. Once you’re enrolled, contact us and cancel your plan. You must do it in this order and before June 25th.
How do I get information on my pension or health allotment?
For any information managed by the City, we recommend you check your profile in SAP or contact RISK Management 619-236-5924.
