Why Have a Will and Trust?
There are plenty of reasons, but the most obvious is to make sure your assets end up where they should. Not only that, but wills often name a guardian to manage and make sure your trust is enacted.
This is also why it is important to keep a will and trust up to date, as the best choice for “guardianship” might change over time, as might your intentions or even the laws/rules surrounding wills.
Modern will and trusts also solve potential pitfalls by creating “pour over” conditions. These are essentially safety nets that cover what should happen if a sizeable hidden asset is discovered.
Basically, an up to date will can make sure your family is set up for the future and also keeps people from fighting over your collectible baseball cards you thought you lost all those years ago!
