If we’ve learned anything from recent events, it’s that investing in proactive solutions is invaluable, especially when it comes to you and your family’s health.
From healthy eating habits, to exercise, to regular medical testing, there’s plenty you can do to help safeguard you from sudden illness.
Primary Prevention
In the world of epidemiology, primary prevention refers to the things you can do to keep yourself safe before illness strikes.
This means healthy lifestyle choices, such as: eating healthy, drinking water, regular exercise, quitting unhealthy habits (smoking, excessive drinking, etc), and having clear and effective hygienic routines (such as washing your hands, safe person-to-person contact, appropriately utilizing disinfectants).
Primary prevention also involves immunization/vaccination, quarantining, and avoiding places/activities that increase your chance for illness.
Secondary Prevention
Secondary prevention refers to methods we can start taking to detect and address diseases before symptoms appear. Secondary prevention can take the form of regular testing for diseases you’re at risk for or have been exposed to.
The role of secondary prevention is to identify threats before they become detrimental, and to manage or remove them as soon as possible.
