What do I need to Know now that I’m Enrolled? –2021-2022

Now that Open Enrollment is over and the FY22 benefit year has officially started you’re ready to begin making the most of your benefit plans! But… Where should you start?

WELL! Depending on which plan, it most likely means you can just start accessing your coverage. Meaning you’ll be able to see the dentist, go to the doctors, or submit Aflac claims. But with some plans, there are important things to get done right away.

VSP

VSP is interesting since you’re likely only using your benefits once or twice per year. It's important to make sure you’re getting your free eye exam and your new glasses so that way you’re not leaving any money on the table (reminder, with SDPEBA’s VSP plan you can get 2 pairs of glasses, if you have your plan through the city, you can only get one pair every 2 years).

Check out this video for a list of important things to do now that the benefit year has started!

Sharp

Once your enrollment is processed, you’ll be sent an ID card in the mail allowing you to access coverage! It really is as simple as that.

In order to find in network coverage, we recommend you use Sharp’s “find a doctor” tool, you can check out an article on that by clicking here. You can also contact SDPEBA’s very own Sharp specialists by calling 888-840-4747. For other amazing tips check out the video linked below.

MetLife Dental

If you have an HMO plan, you’ll be sent an ID card in the mail allowing you to access coverage, if you have the PPO plan, you simply need to head to MetLife’s website and find a dentist through there. You can find a dentist for either plan by clicking here. Just note that you need to assign yourself a dentist for the HMO plan, meaning you can only see that one specific dentist for coverage!

Check out the video below for more information and tips to best utilize your plan.

Sharp and MetLife Dental HMO - ID Cards

If you have SDPEBA’s Sharp or MetLife HMO Dental plan, you’ll be able to start accessing your services. However, you will need your ID card to get started. Click here to check out an article on when you can expect those!

 MetLife Legal

Once you signed up for MetLife Legal you can start receiving covered legal services through MetLife’s site. You don’t need an ID card; you just need to call 800-821-6400 or go to https://legalplans.com and you’ll be able to get set up with a referral number.

We highly recommend you call the MetLife service team for advisement on what’s covered and do your research when choosing your lawyer! Check out the video below for more information on getting started with MetLife Legal.

Aflac

When it comes to Aflac, the most important thing to understand is when and how to file a claim. You’re able to file a claim for a qualifying event as long as it happened during your coverage window, (note, the accident plan only covers accidents that happened while you are enrolled, whereas your hospital and critical illness plans cover doctor visits while you are enrolled).

In order to file a claim, we suggest that you contact us after an event in order to file a claim. You can call us at 888-315-8027 or email us at [email protected]. If you decide to email us, please follow the guide linked here to make sure we can get the information we need to get started.

For more information and additional tips, check out the video below.
